CANCER CHARITY ISSUES STREET COLLECTIONS WARNING
10 June 2010
North West Cancer Research Fund (NWCRF) is warning its supporters in the Harlech area to stay vigilant when donating to fundraisers in the street.
Members of NWCRF’s Harlech committee have received reports of unofficial street collections taking place on behalf of North West Cancer Research Fund.
North West Cancer Research Fund which puts almost 90p of every £1 donated directly into research into the causes of cancer and how it spreads, has created a list of guidelines to ensure those donating can be sure their money will reach the charity.
Street collections guidelines:
• Ask collectors for authorisation cards which will identify them as official collectors.
• Collection buckets must always be sealed to comply with the charity commission regulations.
• A licence must be held to carry out street collections and can only take place on a specific date and time, without a licence collections are not authorised.
• Street collections aren’t the normal method of fundraising for North West Cancer Research Fund.
• If in doubt, call NWCRF on 0151 709 2919.
Anne Jackson, Chief Executive, NWCRF said: “We are not trying to discourage people from raising funds for NWCRF, however, to ensure the longevity of on-street collections we must abide by specific rules.
“We would encourage anyone who wishes to raise cash for research into the causes of cancer and how it spreads, to contact NWCRF who will be able to offer guidance to ensure street collections are carried out in the correct manner.”
