ANDY PASSES THE BATTENBERG FOR CHARITY
26 May 2010
A bakery worker has discovered a new and inspiring way to avoid the cakes and pies and achieve the perfect body – by encouraging friends and family to sponsor him for every pound of weight he loses.
Andrew Surrall from Abergele, who works for Henllan Bread in Denbigh, is aiming to lose 49lbs by Christmas, and to keep him on track is asking for donations towards North West Cancer Research Fund (NWCRF).
Andrew, 48, said: “I’ve tried to lose weight before but always fallen at the first hurdle and being surrounded by all this temptation all day doesn’t help – the Battenburg cake is my weakness.
“But by doing a sponsored slim and donating all the proceeds to NWCRF, it gives me much more incentive to reach my final goal. I don’t want to let anyone down.”
This will be the first time that Andrew has raised money for NWCRF. His father passed away from cancer in 1996.
Anne Jackson, Chief Executive of NWCRF said: “Andy is an inspiration to other people out there trying to lose weight. I think this is a fabulous idea and all the team at NWCRF will be supporting him throughout, so that he has the best weight loss possible.”
NWCRF funds research into the causes of cancer and how it spreads. Almost 90p from every £1 donated to the charity goes directly into funding this valuable research. NWCRF is made up of 28 committees, based all over the North West of England and North Wales, who work tirelessly to fundraise for the charity.
