HATRICK FUNDRAISER FOR NORTH WEST CANCER RESEARCH FUND

02 December 2009

A brave team of fundraisers from the North West has successfully completed the UK’s most challenging mountain climb to raise money for research into the causes of cancer.

The notorious Three Peaks Challenge was tackled and won by a team of amateur climbers from Liverpool-based company Smart Storage, who raised £5,000 for North West Cancer Research Fund.

The challenge, so called as climbers must scale three mountains within 24-hours, is known for its difficult weather conditions and gruelling schedule.

The climb began with a 5am start at the foot of Scotland’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, which was completed by 10am when the team made their way to Cumbria to complete Scafell Pike – a challenge which, although hampered by an electrical storm was completed by 9pm.

Despite dreadful weather conditions and extreme cloud cover, the team never gave up and managed to scale Snowdon in time for the sun to rise.

The team of eight climbers was guided by outdoor pursuits specialists, Go Commando who ensured the safety and wellbeing of the team at all times.

“I am so proud of the whole team and can’t thank our supporters enough. Three Peaks was a gruelling challenge and I can’t think of a more deserving cause than North West Cancer Research Fund.

“I am sure this will be one of many challenges the Smart Storage team will undertake to raise money for invaluable research into the causes of cancer and how it spreads,” said Jon Wyles, Managing Director, Smart Storage.

Anne Jackson, Chief Executive, North West Cancer Research Fund: “The team at Smart Storage should be very proud, what an incredible feat of determination and generosity. Their dedication to research into the causes of cancer is to be admired and we are very grateful for supporters like Smart Storage.”
