LUNE VALLEY CANCER CAMPAIGNERS RAISE £26,000
25 March 2009
Campaigners whose efforts support scientists at Lancaster University researching the causes of cancer celebrated their charity’s 60th Anniversary – by raising their highest-ever total.
The Lune Valley branch of the North West Cancer Research Fund pulled in an astonishing £26,665 from their various events throughout 2008 – beating the previous year’s figure by more than £6,000.
Two key events pushed the fund to a new record – despite the awful weather which blighted both.
The first was Annie Carrington’s courageous run in the London Marathon, battling her way to the finish through a continual downpour. Annie, from the village of Bentham, raised more than £3,000 by her brave efforts.
The second, a Hog Roast Night, was also affected by heavy rain, but again proved a huge success, with great support from the charity’s supporters and their friends and families.
Branch Chairman, Olivia Ley from Burrow, said: “We were determined to make a real special effort for our 60th Year – and we did.
“The people in North Lancashire and Cumbria have once again shown their grit and their generosity. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their help, support and generosity. The work that our researchers carry out is vital – and we should do all we can to help them.”
