Sophie's Legacy
Sophie's Legacy: helping improve the lives of cancer patients through inspirational endeavours.
Set up in memory of Sophie Drury, who inspired all those around her during her battle with Ovarian Cancer, Sophie's Legacy is an organisation that takes on inspiring challenges in order to improve the lives of cancer patients.
Supporting Prospect Hospice, Macmillan and now us, North West Cancer Research Fund. The first Sophie's Legacy challenge was in 2009 when 50 of Sophie's family and friends ran the Rome Marathon raising well over £1 00,000 for her chosen charities
This Year's Challenge
On 20th May 2010 10 teams of 4, each containing at least one female athlete will line up to race 53Km through the Lake District. The course will include a 12Km canoe paddle on Ullswater and the ascent of Helvelyn on foot followed by 30Km of mixed terrain mountain biking.
The teams are varied in their aspirations. There are those looking to complete an event they would never have considered had it not been for Sophie. Then there are those, including one team of former international athletes, who want to win as part of their tribute to a remarkable lady
Update August 2010: Funds raised so far for North West Cancer Research Fund total £7446.89! Fantastic amount for an amazing feat! Well done to all the teams!
