About us
Founded in 1948 as the Friends of the Liverpool Radium Institute, we are one of the oldest independent medical charities in the North West.
Our aim is to provide grants to support fundamental research in the North West of England and North and Mid-Wales, into the causes of cancer and the mechanisms by which cancers arise and exert their effects.
Most of our funds are raised by voluntary means to fund vital research at the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University and Bangor University.
A large proportion is raised by volunteers in our branches in the area covering Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, North Shropshire and North and Mid Wales.
We have raised over £28 million for research to date and are very proud of the fact that on average 90p in every pound donated has been put into actual research; over £750,000 a year.
